How to differentiate the plastic

The plastic, despite its light specific weight, accounting for 16% of the total weight of our waste and occupies about 40% of the volume. There are about 110 different types of plastic, each of them is recognizable by a logo on the label or directly on the exposed rear portion of the pack.

The logo consists of three arrows chasing each other in a circle. Inside the Arrows is printed a few letters or numbers that indicate the molecular composition of the polymer.

The main source of plastic packaging is given by containers for water, soaps, detergents, and bottles for beverages or foods. Some packages are labeled in plastic while others are provided with paper labels, therefore, first to differentiate the plastic must be removed from the label.

Another example is given by the jar of yogurt. It should be rinsed and then be thrown devoid of its aluminum cap that is not composed of plastic. Other materials are to be differentiated with the plastic blister packs of pasta and eggs.

It may be clear, they all go in the plastic packaging, on the contrary, should not be selected those objects which, although made of plastic, for bureaucratic reasons, should be placed in the residual undifferentiated, in the so-called black bag; not differentiate with plastic glasses and are coffee cups, plastic cutlery, pens, brackets, and plastic toys.

How to differentiate the plastic?

  • Collect all the plastic packaging (bottles, containers). Before discarding it would be appropriate whitefish.
